At the age of 3, Ben was diagnosed with leukemia. He fought for 3 years. Six months after those 3 years, he relapsed. Another 2 years of intense chemo. Within those 2 years, the cancer returned again.
Then even more intense chemo and 8 sessions of whole body radiation. Then a partially-matching stem cell transplant at the age of 9. It worked! Seven years, cancer-free!! He was a straight "A" student. He wrote a manuscript for a book. He said "I love you" to us literally 15 times a day, every day. He played piano, the trumpet, created movies, and planned great parties! He was the kindest, funniest, selfless person we've ever known. Suddenly, end of June 2015, speech problems and short term memory loss. After a CT scan, in July 2015, a 5cm brain tumour was found on the left side. The next day he was operated on. After the tumour was removed and was analyzed, it was found to be glioblastoma, a fast-growing, highly malignant brain cancer. The prognosis was grim. He can chose to fight it ... or not. He chose to fight! He completed 33 sessions of intense radiation to his brain and continued with chemotherapy ... yet again. Despite all that, it was an aggressive, incurable cancer. Sadly, Ben lost his fight on July 8th, 2016. We are raising money for the Canuck Place Children's Hospice, where Ben spent the last 3 weeks of his short life. Please donate whatever you can to this kind, selfless soul. He went through so much. Thank you and take good care! |
